How Richard Stenning Introduced Chiropractic to Austin

Richard Stenning was the principal chiropractor in Axminster and Honiton, running his clinics under the name Chiropractic Care. After opening in the mid-1990s, Richard helped thousands of people across the local community and built a trusted reputation for patient-centred care.

While studying for his GCSEs at Colyton Grammar School, Austin completed his work experience with Richard. This experience opened his eyes to what chiropractic truly was and the positive impact it could have on people’s lives. As a keen rugby player, Austin later suffered a significant back injury and sought treatment from Richard himself. The results were so effective that it confirmed his decision to pursue a career in chiropractic.

Austin went on to complete a four-year Master’s degree at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic before moving back to East Devon, where he spent five years practising in Exeter. In 2021, Richard reached out to Austin about the opportunity to take over the Honiton practice — an opportunity he was proud to accept. Then in 2024, after supporting the Axminster clinic during 2023, Austin purchased the Axminster practice as well, continuing the legacy of care Richard had established.

The clinics have continued to grow from strength to strength thanks to the ongoing support of our patients, and we feel privileged to have helped so many people locally. Today, our team includes five full-time chiropractors, three massage therapists, and a welcoming reception team who are always happy to help — and often offer a friendly chat and a coffee too.
